FIND YOUR BALANCE!
A "Fall Prevention" Strength and Balance Exercise Class
Have you ever lost your footing on wet or icy pavement causing you to fling your arms in the air and sending your heart into high gear?
If you have then you know how frightening loosing your balance can be.
Ordinarily we take our balance for granted, but it is an important and vital part of our daily life.
As many as 28% to 45% of older adults fall each year.
Though our balance will decline as we age, balance activities, elderly balance exercises and elderly balance training can limit the loss or actually improve our performance.
Falls and fall-related injuries, such as hip fracture, can have a serious impact on an older person's life. If you fall, it could limit your activities or make it impossible to live independently. Many people often become more isolated after a fall.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, roughly more than one-third of adults ages 65 years and older fall each year. Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths.
This class is designed to help you improve your balance and stability, thereby reducing your risk of falling. Emphasis is on safety and proceeding at your own speed.
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL CLASS LOOK LIKE?
- we start off by doing a dynamic warmup in chairs, preparing our bodies for the upcoming exercise. From there, we transition to a "circuit" consisting of a mix of strength and balance classes, all performed in a safe and suitable manner for our participants. Following the completion of the circuit we return to our chairs for stretching and Range of Motion exercises. In between the start and finish of each class we laugh, crack terrible jokes and have a lot of fun!
EVERY MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY AT 12 NOON
